Dining room & Direction
- When constructing the dining room, use the east, west or south portion of the house. According to Vastu, these directions are the ideal ones to dine in. It doesn’t matter whether the dining room is a separate room or in continuation with the kitchen. The west direction is the most profitable side while the north is the most demeaning side to have a dining room.
- The dining table should be arranged in such a way that the head of the house or his wife or his eldest son is able to sit in the south of south west or west of south west chair in the room.
- The door to the dining hall should be kept in the north, east or west portion of the room. Take care not to provide any arches in the dining room.
- When seated around the table to eat, the head of the house should always take his food facing the east, while the rest of the household can sit facing the east, west or north. No one should take food facing the south as this can cause unnecessary quarrels in the family.
- Keep a store of water in the north-east corner of the room.

- If you are placing a fridge inside the dining room, then keep it in the south east portion of the room. It is suitable to have it against the south wall.

- It is preferable to have the dining table in a rectangular form or a square form. Do not use tables that are of irregular shape, octagonal shape, oval shape or egg shaped.
- The dining table should be kept without touching the walls. It is best to avoid placing irregular shaped objects on the dining table.

- When painting the dining room, light blue, yellow, saffron or light green colour are the prescribed hues.
- Keeping pleasant pictures of nature and landscapes will give a soothing aura to the dining room.
- The dining room should be in the same floor where your kitchen is located. If you have the kitchen on the ground floor, never keep the dining room on the floor above. It is not proper to carry food across stairs.
No bathroom or toilet near a dining room
Having an attached room with the dining room for cleaning utensils and storing them is acceptable. However, do not construct an attached bathroom or toilet with the dining room.
