Vastu tips for maintenance of Plants & Trees
It is not advisable to maintain a garden or have plants growing in the southeast or south direction of the house. Inconsideration of this can lead to loss of property, fear, quarrel and sickness for the residents. The East, West and North directions of the house are ideal for growing a garden. This is said to bring about a pleasant life for the residents. Unwanted trees and plants should be weeded out.
According to Vastu principles, having a banyan tree in the eastern side, a peepul tree in the western side and an iththi tree (ficusviren) in the northern side of the house will ensure good fortune, both in the form of money and materials and will contribute to a royal life. On the other hand, if these trees are grown in the opposite directions, namely, a peepul tree in the eastern side, an iththi tree (Ficusviren) in the southern side and a banyan tree in the western side, it will cause bereavements and loss of property.
The most ideal tree considered is the coconut tree. A coconut tree is related to the Karpagavriksham in Hindu mythology, which is a tree of heaven yielding whatever is desired. South or South-West is the ideal direction to plant coconut trees and lemon trees. Flowering plants and mango trees are ideal to be grown around a house. Having trees and plants in the compound increases the power of the motion of the five elements, which is turn affects the residents in a good way.
When maintaining a garden, keep in mind the following:
- Plant tall trees in the southwest side of the house for stability and progress
- The number of trees planted around the house should be in even numbers-like 2, 4, 6, 8 etc.
- A money plant grown interior is considered to bring wealth into the family.
- A dead tree or a tree with no leaves should be immediately cut down.
- Fruit-bearing trees should be planted in the east of the garden and avoid North.
- If there are any religious places near to your house, it is ideal to plant a row of trees in the front of your house, just leaving the view space of the main door
- Trees with two branches only located opposite to your house are considered as inauspicious.
