Overview :
Extern Express Highway or EEH is a major highway in India serving the city of Mumbai. It is considered as one of the busiest and major roads in the MMR and is a part of NH3. It is a north-south artery road of Mumbai connecting the city to the eastern suburbs and metropolitan area of Thane. It is a 6-lane wide road (3 lanes in each direction) with several flyovers. EEH begins at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and extends up to Thane. It ends at Chembur from Sion Panvel Highway at RCF Junction to the outer limits of the city. It loads heavy traffic during rush hours. It is expected that more than 50000 passenger cars run daily on it. It continues as Dr Ambedkar Road beyond Sion towards south. It is one of the several key roads widened and improved under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project to link Sion in Central Mumbai to Thane and beyond. Linking roads such as Jogeshwari - Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and Santa Cruz - Chembur Link Road (SCLR) are the major arterial roads connecting Western Express Highway and Eastern Express Highway. When it comes to long term investing prospects in a city, highway plays a major role as they provide good connectivity to various localities within the city and areas in other cities. Due to its connectivity, the infrastructure of a particular area grows and with growth in infrastructure and the demand of residential properties in that area also grow. The EEH connects the eastern suburbs of Dadar, Chembur, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund.
Connectivity :
Express and AC Buses has been introduced by BEST in this route which connects the locality to the other parts of the city. EEH has excellent connectivity to Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport which is located at a distance of 16.7 km via Western Express Highway/Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road can be accessed in less than 30 mins. Nahur, Bhandup, Kanjur Marg, Vikhroli, and Ghatkopar are its nearby Railway Station. However, Kanjurmarg is the nearest railway station to Eastern Express Highway which is located at a distance of 9.6 km via Eastern Express Highway/Mumbai-Agra National Highway which can be accessed in less than 15 mins. Phase-1 alignment of Mumbai Metro with one of its route (Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar) passing through the locality. Ghatkopar Metro Station is the nearest metro station to EEH.
Proposed and Planned Infra :
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is planning to start building three flyovers on the Eastern Express Highway to decongest the Chheda Nagar junction at Ghatkopar. Plan for removing paver blocks from various crossings and relay them with mastic asphalt by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Plan for the foot overbridges (FOBs) on the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) between Sion and Mulund by MMRDA. MMRDA’s plans to extend the freeway by 3 km and connect it to the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) in Ghatkopar. Planned for North-South Metro-4 corridor (32.32 km long) Wadala-Ghatkopar-Thane-Kasarvadavali that will connect Wadala In Central Mumbai with the neighbouring Thane district via the Eastern Express Highway.

This long stretch has some good healthcare facilities, with the presence of multi-specialty and general hospitals, a number of clinics and pharmacies. Some of them are Krantiveer Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Hospital, Modi General Hospital & ICU, Naval Hospital among few. The locality has many shopping malls, retail outlets, utility shops, departmental stores and supermarkets. It also has theatres and multiplexes, hotels, serviced apartments and restaurants.
