Overview
Developed way back in the 90s, Electronic City in South Bangalore is one of the most prominent IT hubs of the Silicon Valley. Located 20km from the city centre, this 332-acre city is one of the largest industrial parks in the country housing global majors, multinationals companies and iconic firms. Over one lakh people are said to be directly employed here.
Developed by Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS), it consists of three phases – Phase I, Phase II and Phase III.
Connectivity
- The Hosur Road, i.e. the National Highway 7, runs parallel to Phase I to the north-east, and is one of the major access roads in this region. It connects the area to Silk Board Junction, Madiwala, and Brigade Road.
- From Electronic City Bus Depot, one can get BMTC buses to other important areas in the city.
- The 4-lane mixed corridor elevated highway takes a mere 15 minutes to reach E-City from Silk Board.
- Bangalore Central Railway Station is about 40km from here, while the airport is at a distance of about 53km.
Factors for Growth
- Due to the presence of about 200 IT giants, employment opportunities are galore here. This is what gave a major push to the real estate market of the area.
- The area is gradually becoming popular among working professionals primarily for its walk-to-work culture.
