Hi,
I would like to know why government charges stamp duty? what is the purpose of taking this from the buyer?

Payment of these registration charges is done primarily to maintain ownership records of the property which is extremely important for safeguarding one's interest in a property. Registration lends authenticity to the property documents and imparts them evidentiary status in court in case of any dispute or fraud in the future.

I think Stamp duty in Lucknow is calculated based on the circle rates control in the area the property is located in. Apart from stamp duty, a court fee of Rs 10, 200 is also payable while registering a property in the city.

Stamp duty is a tax that is levied on various sectors including land and plot transactions. Stamp Duty and Registration charges are compulsory payments. These fees change from property to property and with different cities. It comes with administrative orders. You can get further information from the concerned city’s registrar office.
