The monorail project work is expected to start next month and the line would be commissioned in 2017 at a cost of Rs 2,235 crore. As per plan, a contractor will be chosen and he will initiate the work within the next few months. Once ready, the corridor would cater to around 1.5 lakh passengers every day. It will have three inter-change points at Shastri Park, Nirman Vihar and Trilokpuri thereby providing connectivity with the existing Dilshad Garden-Rithala line, Anand Vihar-Dwarka and the proposed Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar under Phase-III of Metro.
Once the Delhi Cabinet approves the project, it will be sent to the Union Government seeking approval from the Group of Ministers. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which is currently funding Delhi Metro projects has agreed for funding the monorail project also.
It will run from Shastri Park Metro Station to Trilokpuri has been planned to have 12 stations. The Delhi Metro has reviewed and approved the Detailed Project Report and would implement the project soon.
Hi Dhiraj, Delhi monorail project seems to get clearance by the state cabinet shortly. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit directed the Transport department to table the proposal in the next meeting of the Delhi Cabinet.
