Hi Gaurav,
As per recent news, more than thirty percent of Delhis population live in areas designated by the government as unauthorised colonies, settlements that are officially categorised as illegal. One of seven unplanned settlement types designated by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), these colonies are built in contravention of zoning regulations, developed either in violation of Delhis Master Plans (for 1962, 2001, and 2021) or on illegally subdivided agricultural land. In recent years, the government has undertaken a range of efforts to regularise these settlements and carry them across the line to full legitimacy.

Hi Gaurav,
Yes Mr Raj, I completely agree with you. According tome, living in an unauthorized colony has two significant consequences for residents: they cannot legally transfer their land, and service provisioning is low and insufficient. Residents do, however, enjoy slightly more secure land tenure than those in other types of unplanned settlements, like slums (slum designated areas) and jhuggi jhopri clusters (non-notified slums, or JJCs). These UACs exist in a liminal legal space: while they are not perceived as encroachments like JJCs, they are also not considered to be part of the ‘planned’ city.

Hi Guys,

As i came to know from local charter, the GNCTD’s Unauthorized Colonies Cell attributes the rise of unauthorized colonies to the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) failure to construct enough low cost housing in the face of large-scale migration from neighboring states since the 1960s.

As per different sources, the Cabinet extended the cut-off date to be eligible for regularization from March 2002 to June 2014, thus extending the benefit to over 1,000 more colonies. As per the existing guidelines, only 895 colonies were found to be eligible. Sources said the formal notification would be out within a week.

@ Gaurav,

Sources said the Delhi government had sent a proposal last week to revise the guidelines and sought extension of the cut-off date for regularization. It had also opined that regularization of unauthorized colonies will bring planned construction in these colonies under the existing building bye-laws and other applicable rules.

The new vacant land tax, which is introduced by DDA will cut off all this illegalities, so we can hope land Mafia's wont effect the real estate of Delhi too much

Mafia has been eyeing these vacant lands in unauthorized colonies ever since regularization, as none of these plots possess any records from the Delhi Development Authorities (DDA), land

5
What about the issues of land Mafia's? They are all waiting for the vacant land, they want to consume it, why the government is not taking any action

Regularization of unauthorized colonies has been an ongoing issue for ages now and this has triggered as a cause of concern for the Delhi Government just when the Assembly polls are on top of the agenda for this year.
