I think the budget did right by introducing quality control mechanisms into the industrial sector. What is happening currently is that, even though Coimbatore has a huge workforce and prospective talents throughout, all this is unorganised. The potential that the city has to offer is largely under-utilised. This new policy of using MSMEs is the correct way to go about it. Also its going to help the economy a lot by the budget’s new motivation to help small businesses.

Honestly speaking, from a more rural point of view the budget is kind of generating mixed responses from the farmers. Rs 8 lakh crores of agricultural credit have been allocated to the Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association. But all this money will be off no help because the farmers are already completely swamped in debts. They cant even avail of loans from banks, who turn them away because of this huge overdue. So right now, the credit is actually just burdening these poor farmers more.

A Rs 10,000 crore fund has already been set up to help out the young entrepreneurs in the city. We are hoping that this will help out the SMEs in the city. Overally, yeah even I think it looks good for the trade industries in Coimbatore. For example, the budget reviewed and reduced the service tax in cotton trading for the state of Tamil Nadu, since we get most of our cotton from other states.

There are a lot of new existing things in store for Coimbatore city under the Union Budget of 2014-15. The new government wants to build a competent network of small but strong 100 smart cities, and Coimbatore is on the agenda. The budget is pro-manufacturing. Coimbatore is to get more improved schemes for better urban development, as well as for the rural sector. There has been several proposals to boost the solar power technologies in Coimbatore. That will definitely boost most industries across the city.
