Demolition drive in Hyderabad stopped?

Q: Hey, is it true that the GHMC has stopped the demolition of all those illegal constructions? Why though? What will be their plan now?

I know that a total of 40 illegal structures have been demolished across the city, before July 19. As of now, we are not getting a clear response from the city planner even, whether this demolition drive will continue or not. Funny thing is that the residents in some of the affected areas seem to think that the GHMC was only targeting certain illegal buildings for demolition, and letting go of some, if it didn’t suit their purpose. I feel that the GHMC shouldn’t be regularising such an issue of illegal constructions to suit their personal interest.

Yeah, a lot of other residents are getting mad at the GHMC. Why did they have to heed the Standing Committee’s diktat, they were actually doing some really good work! The residential welfare association (RWA) in Khairatabad circle got really unhappy with this decision. They feel that just because the Standing Committee asked them to stop – that’s not a good enough reason. So far just 5 unauthorised buildings were demolished here in Khairatabad circle, and that also just partially, before this halt.

Basically the standing committee decided to stop all the demolition processes. I’m myself not for this, because I feel that it was teaching the miscreants an important lesson about the repercussions of illegally constructing buildings. All those unauthorised buildings have not been destroyed, so I feel that some of those frauds will have gotten away with this. Regularising the buildings wont help in sending a message across, because now they will think that they don’t need any authorisation to build constructions, because in the end they are going to get away with it anyway.
