Sewage Problem in Kavuri Hiills

Q: I have been advised against moving into Kavuri Hills because of a foul smell coming from a lake nearby. Are there clogged drains or something in this locality? Are there any other civic issues Kavuri Hills faces?

It is true that the Durgam Cheruvu serves as a dumping ground for Kavuri hills and other neighbouring localities, as well as for the indistrial areas located nearby, and this has led to the emission of a foul stink as well as an increase in the number of mosquitoes in the area. The local residents have complained to the civic authorities about this matter. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewage Board (HMWS&SB) has been appointed to oversee the cleaning up of this lake, including rennovation of existing pipelines and creation of more underground drains. Upon completion of this project, the sewage problem in this locality should decrease.

Many industrial areas dump their sewage waste into the Durgam Cheruvu which is located close to Kavuri Hills. This untreated sewage has led to the emission of a foul smell. The open drains of the lake have also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Residents of this locality are unable to leave their doors or windows open for too long. Children cannot play outside after 5:30 pm because of the large number of mosquitoes and the horrible smell. I suggest you think twice before shifting into this area. Even though this locality is very posh and boasts of nice houses and facilities, the smell is quickly becoming unbearable, prompting many families to leave.

Yes, this locality does suffer from a foul stench that is emanating from the Durgam Cheruvu that is located nearby. The lake is used as a dumping ground for sewage from all the industrial areas in the city. Even after closing all windows and doors and using room fresheners, the smell still makes its way into the house. It is creating quite a problem for those living in Kavuri Hills, as fresh air has become a luxury. Many pleas have been made to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), but to no avail. And also, you should know that some of the streets in this locality are plunged in darkness at night. Even though streetlights have been erected on the roads, there is no electricity that is supplied to them. You might want to keep all this is mind before investing in property in this locality.
