I live in N R Mohalla boss. I know how difficult it is for us residents. We had petitioned for repairing this situation but no use. The former Mayor told us tat te proect was abandoned due to too much silt being found in the lake.
A sewage treatment plant was supposed to be set up I guess. The storm water drains and the sewage are like a disaster waiting to happen, and with rains flooding quite a few regions in Mysore this year, I am just too scared to think about what Devanur lake can become.
There was a CM fund if I remember correctly. Some 5 crores was allocated just for clearing and maintaining the Devanur Lake and surrounding regions. But with rapid urbanization, people stopped caring and so did the authorities.
But why is no action taken??? The Mysore City Corporation should do something at least na. There are three storm water drains surrounding the lake. They directly bring the drain from northern and eastern parts. Its dangerous to health.
I am from Udayagiri area. I am scared to take my children near that area. There is so much waste there, and the lake in itself is abandoned. It breeds mosquitoes and monsoon season all vector borne diseases will spread like fire.
Devanur Lake right? It has become more than just a dumping area. It is now a definite health hazard. Once the silt and weed start growing, add the garbage dumped, it is a nasty situation.
It is just too sad yaar. That lake was once such a serene location. Blame it on the urbanisation. The feeder canals are no more. They have all been clogged and choked.
