Can Hyderabad be a slum-free city?

Q: Heey, I have recently heard that the government is planning to make Hyderabad a slum free city..? Is this possible? Does any one know any steps that are being taken for this?

If this can happen, then the city of Hyderabad can see a lot of development. A slum free city is a very good idea and every body would want to be a part of this in some way. I think the investemnts in real eatate due to this will increase in and around the city.

But it is a very ambitious project.. Hyderabad has around 1476 registered slums and many more unregistered ones. there are thousands of people who are living in the slums and evacuating them can be a huge task. a budget of around 250 crore can be less for the construction of soo many houses.

I agree, about 80% of the notfied slums need new houses. apart from this..these houses will also need water and electricity. prime localities are only getting basic amenities like water, and providing facilities for these slums again will be a big problem.

The government has entrusted the responsibility to GHMC and has already alloted rs 250 crore for this project. it has started already and the foundation for a few houses that are to be built in the place of a slum in sanathnagar for around 400 houses.

Hey yes, proposals and plans are underway to make hyderabad a slum free city by the Telangana government. The government is planning to construct 2 bhk apartments in the place of all the shanties in the slums and wants to eradicate all the slums.
