About Thirunelveli-Edamon-Kochi-Madakkathara power corridor
Q: Hey, wasn’t there a plan to make a 'power corridor' some years ago for electricity to the areas of Kochi, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and many other districts? What is its status now?
I heard that at least it will take one year to complete the Edamon-Kochi segment of the Thirunelveli-Madakkathara line once the work is started. This Edamon-Kochi line and the delay in implementing the project as well as giving more compensation has already raised a concern about the government meeting the deadline.
But, the latest news is that the state government of Kerala is facing more and more loss by the compensation fee. For acquiring the project, I think that the government has announced that it would pay 'five times' the fair price for land acquired for the project. But..it is believed that once the project starts, it would be profitable to the region.
Yeah..this is really important for Kochi and the real estate of the region. There will be uninterruped supply of power that will also strengthen the investments in this region. The investments in the industrial sector will rise manifolds, in my opinion. This will also result in more investment in the residential sector also.
Hey, in my opinion, this interstate transmission facility is a must for Kerala for evacuating the electricity generated at the Koodankulam Nuclear Power plant which is in Tamil Nadu. Now, the infirm power from the first 1000 megawatt unit of KKNPP reaches madakathara via the Udumalpet route. this means that that power loss for kochi and kerala in general.
I would like to first of all say that this expensive solution to provide power to various places including the region of Kochi has become even more expensive because the state government now has to give Rs. 1,020 as compensation payement.
Yeah…this is because in 2014, one package that was cost rupees 341 crore had been given an elaborate makeover. I think more details of the scheme would be available after a detailed land survey.

Hey..what the power corridor says is that if the second unit of the nuclear facility would become operational at Koodamkulam Nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu, then the Thirunelveli-Edamon-Kochi-Madakkathara route would become indispensable.
