Hi Vikash,
You are absolutelyright. But don't forget that more than 50000 houses are still out of tax net and efforts were being made to bring them under tax net too. But at the same time 20% increament in the house tax is too much and it would put extra burden on those landlords who were using their houses for only residential purpose

@Veena,
Don't you think that if proposal would be cleared then it would be a big burden on landlords who were conducting commercial activities from their houses.

@Veena,
For that, Municipal commissioner Umesh Pratap Singh had recently asked the zonal in-charges to identify 3 wards involved in commercial activities in their zone and conduct a house to house survey. Once survey would be completed, enhanced bills of house tax would be served to landlords.

@Sujan,
As i know, it is for the first time that house tax would be assessed on the basis of current DM circle rate while so far house tax was being assessed on a calculation consisting cost of land and building.

@ Veena,
According to KMC officials, improvement of general tax would be a two-tier process. In the first tier, general tax (house tax) would be increased of those houses which are conducting commercial activities. In the second tier, houses which come under the range of residential accommodation would be covered.

You are right Sujan,
AS per Additional city commissioner Vinod Kumar Gupta, KMC was conducting a survey of commercial properties in the city. In the phase-1 3 wards having most commercial activities in each zone had been considered. After completion of 18 wards of all 6 zones, new 18 wards would be considered for survey.

Yes, I heard. The Kanpur Municipal Corporation is thinking to raise the general tax (house tax) in the city up to 25% from the forthcoming financial year. The proposal for increasing of tax is ready and KMC officials are waiting for a report from all the zones. Once they receive the report, they would place a proposal before the working committee of KMC.
