23 lakes to be developed in Hyderabad

A couple years ago in 2012 government has issued a circular restricting any building activity in the FTL area and had suggested to build a recreational centre or green buffer zone. Also it was said that any building must be destroyed without any hesistation if they violated the law.

A total of 12 phases has been completed as of now and 415 lakes were notified while 23 more water bodies are remaining for which mapping of full tank level boundaries and buffer zones were completed, have been notified.

Here are the names of a couple lakes. Kunta, Chinna Cheruvu, Bandham Kunta, Chinni Damera Cheruvu, Jagamma Kunta, Burugu Kunta, Anthireddy kunta, Nallavani kunta, Kandal Kunta among several others which are all located in and around the Hyderabad area under the juristdiction of different bodies.

Some info here. So the irrigation department has been verifying and certifying the lakes after which it will the revenue numbers will also be labeled in a planned and phased manner and then will be given for public information, suggestions and comments.

Several outside consultants were brough in to find out the fulltank Levels (FTL) of all these lakes to prepare a lake map with the help of the Irrigation department. They have worked well and have completed demarcation of over 521 lakes so far and thier areas are also determined.

So among all the lakes they have found about 168 are in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal COrporation's jurisdictions. while the rest of the 2689 lakes are in the neighbouring villages and gram panchayats.

HMDA brought together the staff of all the local bodies and the Revenue and Irrigation department and tried to gather information on the number of lakes in the HMDA area. They found out a total of about 2857 lakes in its limits.

THis is a great move protection and conservation of water bodies. It has also sought objections and suggestions on the full tank level (FTL) boundary maps and buffer zones of these lakes. I think it will pay off dividends if they make it profitable by developing parks.

Hey there. I read the news too. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Developmental Corporation (HMDA)' s Lake Protection committee has suppossedly notied 23 different lakes to be protected. This mandate has been initiated to keep the lakes safe and away from the hands of encroachers.
