Hey, these circle staff are not just there to ensure the roads are clean but a lot more too. They have to ensure the conditions of kerbs, water stagnation points, footpaths and, avenue plantation and even the functioning of streetlights are all working.

Also to ensure that the roads are dust free, the GHMC has decided to add about 10 big sweeping machines to present fleet of six to have the entire main road network of the city machine swept.

Yes, now these contractors are given the responsibility to ensure that the roads are pothole, cracks and crater free. You know the Special Circle officers will be assigned works every day to check out whether the work has been done according to the guidelines.

You know the GHMC has now decided to the outsource the maintenance of the roads because they have found out that doing it themselves will be more of a burden but it is easier to over look the work every once in a while.

This project is one of the important projects for improving the traffic conditions in Hyderabad and provide smooth ride for passengers and public at present and in future. Traffic is a huge menace right now in Hyderabad, with the work for the Metro Rail in most of the places. I think this particular project will help us reduce the traffic.

GHMC is about to hand over the maintenance of pothole filling of arterial and sub-arterial roads in GHMC to private firms on annual maintenance basis. Recently, the GHMC has floated tenders for maintenance of 1,250 km length of roads and each zone will have 250 km main roads.

Not only that, they are planning to remove any encroachments found on main roads or on footpaths by the MR Circle and they will see to it that that main roads do not have any obstructions to free flow of traffic. Also, they are planning to stop the manual sweeping of the roads, and from now on, the roads will only be swept by machines.

The main task of the MRC is to take care of road maintenance, road recarpeting, road repairs, pot holes fillings etc from time to time and take remedial measures immediately whenever bad roads complaints are received.

This new circle will include the day-to-day monitoring of main road circle by a superintendent engineer, four executive engineers and assistant engineers. Staff from other wings of GHMC like town planning, urban biodiversity, street lighting, health and sanitation with enforcement cell will be attached to the new circle.

Oh yeah, a few days ago the state government had issued orders saying that all the R and B properties will now be maintained by the GHMC. SO a total of the 240 km of the roads that fall under the limits of the corporation that were initially under the R and B department are now under the GHMC.

Hey yeah... The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will soon have a separate main road circle for day-to-day maintenance of about 1,000 km main arterial roads in corporation limits. The roads include municipal, R&B and National Highways.
