While industry representatives nodded in agreement, the gathering knew that winds of change are unlikely to blow anytime soon. I hope GHMC is able to meet the tax collection target.
I was at that event, and he also decried CSR expenditure on activities like planting saplings, which in his opinion was the denizen’s responsibility. Instead, he observed that CSR should fund research.
Yes, at a recent healthcare event, the governor reiterated those concerns and called for return of the ‘family physician’ to save the aam admi money at super-specialty hospitals, when bogged with trivial health problems.
I wanted to contribute that Governor E.S.L Narasimhan is known to plain talk common man issues, noticeably those of health. Rising medical cost and exorbitant charges in corporate healthcare institutions are grouses he frequently conveys.
Well, when this question was posed to a senior official he said that ever since the formation of Telangana, we have been expecting the government to pump in more funds and increase the strength of our personnel but nothing has happened so far.
I agree, but, of late and quite glaringly so, there seems to be a lull in the department. There are no reports of any official raids and if they did, they have been remarkably silent about it.
I wanted to add that just a few months ago, the legal metrology department was on an overdrive. There were regular press releases about a raid here and a raid there. In fact, its raids on fuel filling stations and gold and jewellery shops were nothing short of sensational considering the repercussions that followed.
A few yards away, however, traffic police patrol teams stand on the roadside and stop vehicle drivers. Even as owners plead they are getting late, the cops insist on documents and find some reason to impose fines on them. Well, this appears to be the speciality of the TS government.
Did you know that interestingly, the Cyberabad police are more vigorous during peak hours. No traffic policemen are seen regulating traffic at junctions like Old Alwal and Suchitra.
I agree with the comment below, having realised that stopping vehicles and insisting on documents during peak hours was causing inconvenience to people, the Hyderabad police had done away with that system.
Let me tell you that it’s the same government department but strikingly different is the approach in two adjacent police commissionerates. While the Hyderabad traffic police don’t want to focus on enforcement of rules during peak hours, their counterparts are hell bent on enforcing rules
I want to tell you that, within a single day on Monday, tax dues to the tune of Rs.7.25 crore were collected. For the civic body, appeasement apparently is working where coercion had failed.
Yeah, the civic body has changed its tactics and is now looking at amicable solutions to get dues collected. “There are many court cases and we are entering into a dialogue with owners to settle issues out of court.
From what i know, the coercion tactic did not go down well in general and the civic body was asked by the courts under which provisions such steps were resorted to.
Hmm, after pressure tactics boomeranged, the GHMC is trying to find ‘amicable’ solutions. To reach its property tax collection target, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation went all out and even put garbage bins in front of tax defaulters’ premises
