Fun games for Children’s Day in Apartment Community
There used to be a time when kids’ parties didn’t have quite the glamour that we see today; no fancy restaurants or clowns and characters dressed up. Setting aside the music and dance, the parties were just a simple and heart-warming affair conducted in homes with homemade food and games.
There are people who still like homespun parties and though games and activities for kids’ parties are nearing extinction, here are a few ways to bring joy among the kids. These games provide physical activity, intellectual stimulation and camaraderie among the kids.
Additionally, hosting these games won’t cost you much and most can be done using household items. Moreover, you can stretch them into any theme your kid wants.
Passing the parcel: The simplest of party games, all you need is a gift wrap and some music to initiate the fun. Wrap up a small prize in as many layers of paper as there are kids present. Make the children sit in a circle and ask them to pass the parcel when the music starts. When the music stops, there child holding the parcel has to unwrap a layer of paper. This goes on until the last layer and the kid who gets to unwrap it can claim the prize.
Treasure Hunt: You can conduct this indoors or outdoors like a small part or around your apartment complex. Draw up a treasure map with clues lying around and encourage the kids to find the clues that lead to the prize. You can host this with teams or as an individual event.
Pin the tail: This is a popular game among kids. Draw and cut-out a picture of an animal like a donkey or an elephant without their tail. Cut-out the tail separately and attach a pin to the head. Blindfold the kids and ask them to pin the tail on the body while other kids yell out instructions. The kid who does it accurately will win the prize.
Peanut Hunt: Stash and hide peanuts in a designated area, some obvious while others more expertly hidden. Divide the kids into teams and set them off to find the peanuts within a time frame, say, five minutes. At the end of the time period, recall them and count the amount of peanuts each team discovered. The team with the most number wins.
Clothespin Drop: A large mouth jar is placed at the bottom of a stool. Have the children stand on the stool one by onewith their backs to the jar and drop clothespin into the jar from above their heads. Give each child a try of five times, with an extra turn for each clothespin dropped into the jar.
Egg Race: Have spoons and eggs on hand. It would be a good idea to have the eggs hard-boiled so that they don’t break and make a mess. A better idea would be to use lemons. Have the kids hold the spoons, by the stems, in their mouths and place the egg or lemon on them. The kids should race each other without the lemon falling out.
Balloon burst: Place small gifts inside large balloons and inflate them. The kids should sit on them and try and burst them to claim the prizes inside. This game is guaranteed to gain a lot of laughs and fun.
Musical Chairs: Set up chairs in a circle and have the kids jog around according to the music. As the music stops, the kids should find a place on the chair. The one left standing is out of the game. Continue until a winner is declared.
Memory Tray: Place small items on trays and have the kids look at it for a few seconds. Then ask them to list down the items in the tray from memory. This is quite educative and helps jog the memory of kids.
Bucket Toss: Keep buckets in line and draw a line at a distance from them. Kids should throw a small ball into the buckets without crossing the line. Keep small prizes in the buckets so that when a kid drops a ball into the bucket, he can claim that prize.
