Are you planning for attending dandiya night this year? It is indeed a big celebration night. However ladies participating in Dandiya night must be alert of their personal safety. Before taking a quick view of the safety features women should adapt on dandiya night, let’s take a look at what Dandiya celebration is.

What is Dandiya night?

Dandiya is an Indian cultural event where boys and girls dance in a group with sticks in two hands. Historically it was a Navaratri special celebration, which was once famous and centralized in western India mostly. However, these days this event has moved away from its traditional religious celebration and has become more an entertaining event for youngsters. Dandiya night is arranged in a common place or in an auditorium where hundreds of young boys and girls meet and celebrate the night with random dance and singing.

Women attending Dandiya night must ensure some safety protocols in order to stay safe and protected.

Safety tips on staying safe for women

It is always safe to attend dandiya outdoor party/celebration in group. Most of the group members should be known to each other. If possible collect all mobile numbers and make a group in mobile and leave the same list at home with some guardians.
Dandiya night is a night of celebration and you will have ample chance for making new friends. However do not mix and interact much at the first meeting. If possible act a bit conservative.
Flamboyant and traditional dress is mostly preferred as dandiya dance costume. However take a look at your make up before you leave house. You must use a dress where you are looking pretty, your feminine charm should be oozing out but it should not be revealing at any cost. Wearing a hot dress might look provocative and that might turn a bit risky for you.
Always keep mobile battery fully charged. You can store your home number at emergency, in auto call mode.
Never select a venue for dancing/celebration that it is not adequately illuminated. Never leave the dance floor with any unknown person for the sake of peaceful interaction with each other.
Never take any drinks or chocolates offered by unknown friends or newly introduced friends in the party. At parties, only take drinks in sealed containers: bottles, tetra packs, and cans are the best options.Do not take the risk of leaving your drink unattended.
Do not ever indulge drinking from open beverage containers like, pitchers, punch bowls, or tubs. Sometimes drugs are used by evil minded people to spike drinks; these drugs are mostly found colorless as well as tasteless so you will not be able to trace it.
Never be too intimate with any stranger how attractive he /she seem to be. Never allow any stranger to take your snap.
According to latest law amendment, 11pm has been restricted for public dandiya celebration. It is always safe to attend such places where safety and restrictions are imposed as a part of safe entertainment.
Avoid parking in lonely areas. Be particularly watchful in parking lots and in underground car parks. If you suspect someone is behind you, don’t head frantically toward home. Instead, drive to the adjacent police or fire station, or other open business areas to get immediate help.
