Tips for Maintaining tennis court Maintaining tennis court is an important as well as a routine job in apartment complexes. As the integral demand of the game, a tennis court needs to be in well maintained condition and should look stunning round the year however, it’s quite time consuming a job and it should be done with professional expertise.

Different types of tennis courts and its maintenance

Mainly four types of tennis courts are found globally. These are hard courts, clay courts, grass courts, and carpet/wood courts. Most surprisingly, all 4 types have their demand for surface special care and maintenance.

Hard court maintenance: Maintenance of hard courts are perhaps the easiest out of four types, but it needs a regular cleaning and monitoring of job for keeping clean and free from debris accumulated on surface. Hard courts have a tendency to accumulate pebbles and rocks and those unwanted elements often turn the surface into a cracked and rough one. The best way to maintain a hard court is to apply acrylic coating on the cracks for prevention from further damage. For further prevention on scuffs and marks you should use only non-marking type soles. Repainting of the lines should be done as per requirement however, over paint in never solicited.

Clay court maintenance: Clay courts are quite sensitive and often need regular maintenance. In general, clay courts require regular raking with application of lute-scarifier. The application of lute-scarifier keeps clay surface plain and free from loose granules. The scarifier floats over the surface of the court and its concave shaped blade keeps on flattening the surface. Further drag brush is used for further leveling of surface as well as for complete removal of debris from the clay surface. Line scrub brushes are used for cleaning the lines in case anything is found caked into the lines. Finally, roller is used for complete conditioning of the surface. Light watering on the court prior to any maintenance job is always solicited; it will keep the clay texture soft and ensure extra prevention from cracking.

Grass court maintenance: This type of tennis court is also called lawn tennis court. Here, grass needs regular pruning, trimming, and if necessary cultivating so that the grass surface remains smooth. In grass court drag brush is used for killing earthworms so that grass texture gets properly maintained. Mowing is required for grass court. In addition to mowing, slight fertilizer is required for nourishing the grass-surface so that grass growth should be dense. This type of tennis courts often require slight rolling in order to make the grass bed a bit more compact. Repainting of court line is needed after each mowing course.

Carpet/wood court maintenance: These are maintained for indoor playing of tennis. Carpet/wood covered tennis court needs typical cleaning service almost regularly although these courts do not require any typical maintenance. However, depending on the use of the court the wooden floor may need remaking 2-3 years while covering carpets need to get replaced depending on the wear and tear of the carpet.
