Vastu for designing puja room in your home
For any house, the most sacred portion would be the puja room. It is the place thought to be the centroid of a home, from where the positive energy spreads out.To have an ideal puja room, a Vastu expert should be consulted and the layout as well as the interior of the puja room should be designed accordingly. Here are a few simple things to consider while setting up a puja room as per vastu.
Construction and Placement
- The puja room should always be constructed in the ground floor of the house
- When planning the layout, keep in mind that the ideal position should be at the north, northeast, or the eastern side of the house.
- Most people have an enclosed space as their puja room. This should not be the case. The room should have an open atmosphere, and should have at least a window or a ventilator through which direct sunlight can enter.
- Care should be taken to not build any toilets in the vicinity of the puja room. Even if the puja room is on the ground floor, ensure that there are no bathrooms build in the second floor, right on top of the puja room.
- The flooring for the place of worship is usually done in white marble.
- When compared to the rest of the house, the ceiling of the puja room should be on a lower level. If that is not possible, then construct a false ceiling.
- The ideal colouring for the puja room is white or light blue. Sometimes yellow is also used but not often.
Maintenance of Puja Room
After the layout has been designed and the room constructed, the interior of the room should abide by the Vastu guidelines.
- The pooja room’s doors should always have two shutters.
- The altar on which the idols are placed should be located in the northeast corner of the room.
- The altar should be placed at least 2.5 inches from the wall and should not be fixed to the wall.
- The idols and pictures of deities should be placed facing east or west and never the north.
- The south-east direction is considered to be ruled by Agni (the God of Fire), and so the lamp should be placed facing that direction.
- The room shouldn’t have any materials placed in a level higher than that of the idols or the surface of the altar.
- Placing heavy or large idols of Lord Ganesha in the puja room is not considered auspicious.
- Photographs of dead people should not be placed inside the puja room.
- Ensure that the room is clean and always filled with light.
- While cleaning the puja room, take care not to use the common broomstick that is being used for the rest of the house.
