As the water in the canal is polluted, salt manufacturers have been forced to extract sub-soil brine from the ground. Although the density of brine is much more than seawater, the output is not much. The salt manufacturers have raised a request to the authorities to prevent sewage inflow into the canal, but Public Works Department and Metrowater have turned a deaf ear to their requests. This contaminated water has caused many to get skin ailments.

With the concentration of residential projects by Artha Property, Prabhavathi Builders, Green Home, and JHL Global Pvt Ltd, Kelambakkam will soon brim with real estate activity.
