About Pitampura

Tucked away in the north western part of the Delhi, Pitampura is a posh locality with a synergy of residential settlements. The area offers a mix of apartments, builder floors, independent houses, and villas with ample availability of space for retail and commercial activity.

Pitampura has its fair share of greenery with parks and recreational facilities. There are a good number of schools, hospitals, theatres, eateries, malls, and shopping complexes. To top it off, the area is bustling with the presence of Dilli Haat, which is the pinnacle of street culture in Pitampura. Spread over 7.2 acres, Dilli Haat is divided into a traditional food bazaar and a commercial area stacked with a variety of handicraft and handloom stalls, and flea markets. It also holds the much anticipated Mango Festival.

The connectivity in Pitampura is well equipped with arterial roads that adjoin the Outer Ring Road towards the east. The major highways and roads that run through and around the area are Asian Highway 1 (AH 1), Outer Ring Road, Guru Harikishan Marg, and Road Number 44, making it well accessed. The Delhi Metro line keeps the area well linked with the three metro stations in the vicinity. Pitampura is set 23.6 km away from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, which approximately takes about 31 minutes. The transportation facilities in this locality range between buses, auto rickshaws, cycle rickshaws, and taxis that are considerably reliable.

With a historical background that is marked with significant changes, the locality of Pitampura was developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in the 1980’s. A major milestone in the history was the erection of the 235 metre Pitampura TV Tower, which was a tourist attraction until public access was cancelled for security reasons. Pitampura is mostly occupied by the white collar professionals and Central Government agents. The area is advancing towards the title of a developed locality and ranks high on the real estate radar.

Connectivity & Transit Points

Smooth connectivity has contributed to the realty status of Pitampura. The Outer and Inner Ring Road, and the Rohtak Road that run through the area are easily accessible, keeping Pitampura connected to the rest of the city. The onset of the Metro Rail became an added advantage to the transportation structure and probably the biggest asset to the Pitampura area. Three Delhi Metro stations are a part of this locality, namely Kohat Enclave, Netaji Subhash Palace and Pitampura.

Such a network has contributed to better conveyance and transportation, easing dreaded traffic congestion.

Since this locality is encompassed by the outer and inner ring road, public transport is easily available. It is also in proximity to Rohtak Road and NH-1.

Major Challenges

Pitampura has succumbed to certain faults with regard to parking, illegal encroachments and commercial activities. Delhi, having the highest registration of vehicles in the world, faces multiple problems with regard to parking. Despite the pros of this area, these issues have been bothersome and have given rise to several complaints. Cleanliness and maintenance issues have surfaced in the parks with several garbage dumps that have been left unattended. Gates and pavements in the parks have been damaged and lack due maintenance. The area also faces drainage problems.

Future Prospects for Growth

The Public Works Department (PWD) has embarked on extensive plans to develop the corridor on Outer Ring Road and Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba Chowk to ease out the traffic congestion and make it a signal free stretch. It will also have additional facilities that include footpaths, bus lanes, green belt, cycle track and rainwater harvesting.
