Saidapet is a neighborhood situated in the southern parts of Chennai city. Saidapet is named after Sayyid Shah, a high-ranking official of the court of the Nawab of Arcot. It comes under the jurisdiction of Chennai Corporation. It houses a number of highly honored temples like Karaneeswarar Koil, Sri Siva Subramaniya Swamy Thirukkovil, Amman Temple, Siddhi Buddhi Vinayagar Temple, and Sri Hanumantharayan Koil among others. The Saidapet Court and Saidapet bus depot are located here. It is functioned as the administrative headquarters of Chingleput district. Other prominent localities situated close to Saidapet are Guindy, Alwarpet, Adyar, Mylapore, Nungambakkam, Velachery, Meenambakkam, T Nagar, Madipakkam among others. The neighborhood is served by Saidapet railway station of the Chennai Suburban Railway Network. Thiru VI KA Industrial Estate is located in close proximity to Saidapet while Chennai city is about 11.7 km via Lake View Road and Anna Salai Road. Panagal building is the famous landmark of Saidapet. R. V. Nagar, CIT Nagar, Fanepet, Ambal Nagar, Arulayiammanpet, Nallankuppam, Defence Colony, Sathya Nagar, Vinayagapuram are its neighboring localities. It has a MTC Bus Terminus located on Anna Salai. It has a very famous fish & meat busy shopping market called the Bazar Road. A very famous and well-known Karaneeswarar Temple is located next to the Saidapet Railway station. Mambalam, Saidapet, Guindy are the nearest railway stations to Saidapet. However, Saidapet is the nearest railway station situated approximately 650 m from Saidapet. Chennai Central Railway Station is about 12.2 km via Anna Salai/Mount Road/Chennai-Trichy Highway from where one can get the trains for other tier-1 & 2 cities.
This locality has a nearby metro station, Little Mount. Other metro stations are Guindy Metro and Ekkatutthangal.
