Thrissur the cultural capital of Kerala is well planned beautiful city built around the famous Vadakkunnathan Temple.
Sakthan, besides being a strong ruler was a parton of the arts too and he decided to add to the beauty of Thrissur which had salubrious climate and excellent topography. He cleared the dense forest around the Vadakkunnathan Temple occupying the centre of the town and made a beautiful and extensive maidan, now called the Thekkinkad Maidan.
