Overview
Tambaram is a neighborhood situated on the southern part of Chennai city. Even though it is one of the oldest localities in Chennai, it has now become popular with the Chennai International Airport in its vicinity. It comes under the jurisdiction of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). It lies on the Chennai - Trichy National Highway. The highway and the railway line from Chennai Egmore to Kanyakumari divide the town into East Tambaram and West Tambaram. It is also home to Tambaram Air Force Station of the Indian Air Force. Situated on the GST Road, Tambaram serves as a midway to the IT and SEZ corridors. The area is densely populated and enjoys superb connectivity via the rail and road network. Prominent localities situated close to Tambaram are Chromepet, Selaiyur, Kovilambakkam, Medavakkam, Perumbakkam, Madipakkam, Velachery, Karapakkam, Pallikaranai, Sithalapakkam etc. The area has its own suburban railway station. Apart from that, there is a railway station at Chromepet which is approximately 4 kilometers away from Tambaram. Additionally, the Southern Railway made the Tambaram railway station a new terminal, aside from the existing terminals at Chennai Central and Egmore. Today Tambaram has become a busy hotspot owing to its proximity to commercial industries. Besides, it serves as a town panchayat for the smaller areas adjoining East and West Tambaram with suburbs such as Mudichur, Mannivakkam, Padappai adjoining West Tambaram and Selaiyur, Camp Road Madambakkam neighboring Tambaram East. The Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), one of the seven export processing centers in the country is also located in Tambaram. Global companies like Cognizant, CSC, HTC etc. have all set up offices in the area. Some of the premium residential projects in Tambaram are DCC Avyaya, Casagrand Miro, Swastikk Homes Sria Villas, Casagrand Ferns, Kesariya Swarnagiri among others.?
Connectivity
Tambaram is part of the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus network, with a bus shelter located outside the Tambaram Railway Station.
The Chennai suburban railway network operates a suburban railway service from Chennai Beach to Tambaram.
The GST road is a midpoint from where all big IT and SEZ parks can be reached. Furthermore, it is connected to Trichy and Chennai, and via the NH4 it connects to Mumbai, Pune, and Bangalore while the NH5 connects to Bhubaneshwar.
It enjoys excellent connectivity to Chennai International Airport which is about 10 km via Chennai-Nagapattinam Highway/Chennai-Trichy Highway.
Chromepet, Tambaram Sanatorium, Tambaram, Perungalathur are the nearby railway stations to Tambaram. However, Tambaram is the nearest railway station situated at a distance of 2 km via Velachery Main Road and Velachery Tambaram Main Road.
Chennai Bypass Expressway, Kundrathur Road, Grand Southern Trunk Road, and Outer Ring Road, are some of the prominent roads which run through the area.

Southern Railway has planned to run express trains to the north, west, and east of India from Tambaram to reduce the load on Chennai Central. This move will help thousands of citizens living in the southern suburbs of Chennai.
