Nowadays elevators are common in high-rise buildings and apartments. Though elevators are extremely safe, the number of injuries and death is increasing due to elevator malfunctioning and negligence. Apartment communities need to be careful regarding elevator safety and maintenance.
Many accidents occur because kids play around the elevator or play with the buttons and door of the elevators. It is very important to use elevators properly for a safe and comfortable ride. Here are few tips to keep you and your kids safe while riding an elevator:
Always accompany your kids while riding an elevator. Tell them not to play around the elevator.
If the elevator is full, wait for the next ride. Do not overload the elevator.
Watch your steps while entering and exiting the elevator, as it may be below or above the level of ground.
Do not place your hands or legs or any object between the doors to keep it open, you may get injured or even killed if the door fails to reopen. Instead, use the opening button to keep it open.
Stay away from the door when it is opening or closing. Do not play with the buttons inside the elevator.
Do not use elevator in case of emergencies like fire.
Do not climb out of the elevator until it stops completely.
If your kids ride the elevator alone, it is very important to tell them what to do in case the elevator gets stuck or stop working:
Show your kids the help and alarm button. Tell them to press it in case of emergency and wait for assistance. If the buttons are not working, yell for help.
Do not panic. Stay calm and breath properly. Even if you are stuck, you are safe.
Do not try to force open the door or get out even if the door opens unless it is in level with ground. Don’t try to climb out of the elevator.
