Tips to clean your chandeliers
Chandeliers are the branched decorative lighting mounted on the ceiling that holds a number of lights. Normally they are ornamental and are made of glass. The glass acts like a prism which reflects the light in the full room. The usage of chandeliers came during the medieval period, since then it has become one of the most important elements for home decor.
Like all other furniture, chandeliers also become dirty. One of the main hurdles in cleaning the chandelier daily is its placement. Generally, chandeliers should be cleaned in four-five months. There are various ways to clean chandeliers as they come in different materials such as metal, glass or crystal chandeliers.
Preparation before cleaning chandelier
Make sure you take off all the bulbs before cleaning the chandelier and let the chandelier and lighting sockets cool down. To take care of the bulbs, you can wrap them in plastic papers and tie the end with rubber bands. As the first step, dismantle the parts of the chandelier; to avoid confusion you can click a picture of it so that after cleaning, it will be easy for you to fix them back in the same place.
A chandelier can be cleaned in two ways. Use lint free soft cloth for dry process and for wet cleaning use a damp cloth. Do not use wet cloth with lots of water.
Cleaning crystal chandelier
Cleaning a crystal chandelier is a tedious task and you need to be extremely careful with it. You have to make a mixture of warm water and alcohol in 10:1 ratio. If you do not opt for alcohol, you can mix 70 percent of warm water with 30 percent of white vinegar. You should place a thick blanket underneath the chandelier while cleaning, so that even if you drop the solution, the surface the chandelier is kept will not be damaged.
Use spray bottles to spray the solution on the chandelier. After spraying the solution on the chandelier, keep it for at least for 24 hours. If you want to avoid spraying, you can also dip a cloth in that solution and rinse properly. Use a damp cloth to rub the components of the chandelier. This enhance the lighting of the chandelier.
Cleaning metal chandelier
The solution for cleaning metal chandeliers is different from crystal chandeliers. The wrought iron or metal chandelier can be cleaned by dusting with a soft cloth. You can open the attachments of the chandelier and clean them with a vacuum cleaner also. To make it look shiny, apply a thin layer of liquid wax. Take a clean cloth for applying the wax as it protects the metal. For brass chandelier use dish wash soap in warm water and clean it with soft damp cloth. You will also get brass cleaner in the market.
Make a note, never use ammonia based cleaners and vinegar on metal or brass chandeliers.
