Vastu: Directions for constructing a house

While constructing a house, directions play an important role. According to various books of vaastu, there are set directions for every room in the building. For instance, bathroom should be in east direction, kitchen in south east and bed room in the south direction.

Here are few important tips, following which can ensure continue inflow of happiness in your home.

• Bedroom of home owner in south west.
• Wardrobe, almirah in south west.
• Toilet in south west.
• Bed room of elder son in south west.
• Room of elder daughter, who is unmarried and you are planning her marriage early, should be in north west direction.
• Do not offer north west rooms to your younger daughters.
• Dining room in west direction.
• Granary in north west.
• Cattle shed in north west.
• Toilet in north west is also lucky.
• Chapel should be in north east and east direction.
• Water storage place in north.
• Treasury in north.
• Study room in western south west.
• Room for married person should be in northern north west.
• Eastern north east is right place for storage of household articles.
• Northern north east for medicine storage.
• If dungeon has to be constructed, get it constructed in north-east.
• If you have to make a well dug, get it dug in east. Doing so will enrich the home owner. Along with it, the house owner gets health benefit.
Do not get bedroom, bathroom or toilet constructed against north or east wall.

Doors and Gates

• Note that door of rooms etc. should be opened inward.
• Get a swastik symbol designed on the main door.
• Do not get the main door of store built in north west.
• All accessory doors and windows should be on same height.
• Door of chapel should be in east or north.
• Ventilation should be made in opposite direction of door and windows.
• If a straight road passes from the front of porch through the front of main entrance, door for fortune gets closed.
• Doors and windows should not be in odd no. in house.
• Door should be opened inside.
• North door of house should be placed on lower floor and south on higher floor. There will be no lack of money.
• Door should not be situated at the center. It destroys the family.
• Do not get the main gate built on the place where a road ends, which passes through the house.
• Cut tree stumps at Main gate, if any.
• Main Gate in east direction is considered best in vaastu shastra.
• North-east is the right place for eastern main gate.
• Similarly, choose north-east, if you have to get constructed the main gate in north direction of the house.
• Do not choose south-west, if you have to get constructed the main gate in west direction of the house.
• Get the western main gate built in north west direction of house.
• Do not build two gates in west side of home.
• Construction of place for Worshipping, entrance gate and portico increase your happiness and prosperity.
• Keep upper gate smaller than lower in multistoried building.
• Get the entrance gate built in north or east side.
• Height of garage should be lower than the height of gate.
• Do not place idols in front of entrance gate.
• Goddess Laxmi comes to home if large gate is constructed on west wall of north west.
• Never use glass in main gate of the house.
