Your Vastu guide for Internal Staircase
The ancient science of vastu shastra underlines the importance of having each section of the house in perfect communion with the energy forces. It has laid down various principles that are applicable to interiors and exteriors of any commercial or residential plot or house. In the present scenario of high-rise apartments and double, tripled storied houses and commercial establishments, staircases play a very important role in connecting the various floors of the compound.
A badly placed staircase increases negative energy forces. A wrong design of the staircase can undo all the positive vibes of other vastu principles applied on various floors and interiors. Here are some vastu guidelines for internal staircase to bring in wealth, health and peace of mind in your home and family.
Direction: According to Vastu, all staircases must be built in such a way that the person climbing them moves from north to south direction or from eastern to the western direction. Any other movement is considered to be negative and against the principles of vastu shastra. This directional connectivity of the staircase is applicable to both internal as well as external steps including commercial and residential centers. Staircases are considered as spaces of flowing energies according to Vastu principles. So, they should be always turning clockwise as we go up.
Number of Steps: For internal staircase to be Vastu compliant, it is essential to have odd number of steps. For example 15, 17, 19 are good. This is mainly because most people are right handed and they generally put their right foot first while climbing a staircase. So while they culminate the climb, they prefer to end on the right foot. This is possible only when there are odd numbers of steps. It is simply for this reason that the right foot is equated with gain, the left with loss.
Height: The difference between two steps of a staircase must not be too high or too low while the walls adjoining the staircase must be decorated with small pots with vibrant and colourful flowers or wallpaper. The vibrant color décor around the staircase offers a positive vibe between the floor connectivity, making the house more prone to peace and prosperity.
Position: According to Vastu principles, staircases should not be built in the North-East corner of the building irrespective of whether it is located inside the house or outside the house. It is said that this positioning is likely to drain the wealth of the house. Also it has to be noted that other rooms like bathroom or pooja room should not be positioned under the stair case. However, using the space below the staircase as a storage space is not a problem.
Moreover, if the staircase is positioned right before the entrance of the house, it is considered as an imbalance. Nevertheless, this can be offset by positioning indoor plants in front of the staircase.
