Q: Mumbai city is fast growing economically and in infrastruction. We pedestrains need safety and security. Therefore foothpaths are vital for Mumbai residents.
I am staying in Mumbai and we are forced to walk on the road instead of footpaths because of crumbling footpaths and many people died on the city roads. If footpaths are upgraded, made pedestrain and disable friendly then the number of accidents will come down. So i think teh BMC has taken the correct decisions to make the use of pavement complusory.
It is said that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is taking an effort to make the use of footpaths compulsory as it is also a part of the road. Under BMC act street includes pavements and the civic body is bound to make adequate provision for the construction, bridges, alterations, maintenance etc. Footpaths are essential for the safety of the peopls who travel on foot.
