Only 18 per cent of metro rail projects have been taken up globally under PPP model. There is limited PPP experience in India, so it has to be observed for some more time before any conclusion can be drawn. And presently the proposals have been sent by cities like Ahmedabad , Surat, Pune, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Guwahati, Nagpur, etc.
Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) has been planning to set up metro rail in 34 cities across India which have above 1 million population.. in this regard it has created new metro railway policy too.
Most of the cities where metro rail has been planned are in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Gujarat. If any state or city administrations approach MoUD for assistance in such projects the new policy would be of help in drafting their feasibility reports.
