Hello Srikumar..these people pointed out some issues which were not covered by RITES. Thus they rejected the proposal on the basis of cost escalation. Kolkata metro is funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency ,Railways, and the Union urban development ministry. And yes compensation was provided to affected people after they agreed to move to a temporary accommodation in a building till the metro work gets over.
@ Lokesh..Why does the metro officials not believing the report prepared by RITES..?? And yes who is funding for this metro project..?? Is there any compensation provided to rehabilitees of BB Ganguly Street .??
Yes kalki..feasibility study was conducted by RITES. They prepared reports and highlighted that realignment would escalate the cost by Rs 157 crore. On the other hand, KMRC thinks that this realignment would increase the cost by minimum Rs 600 crore.
Hi javed ..was any feasibility study conducted..?? It is because such big decisions cannot be taken without any study. I also heard that many rehabilitees of BB Ganguly Street went to court as they wanted the land back which was acquired.
Hi Sudip..The Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation has rejected the proposal of realigning the East-West Metro route due to massive increase in cost. They were already bearing Rs 40 crore a day for delay in construction.
