Hi all, the Corporation collects a property tax of Rs 4.40 to Rs 4.45 per square metre from industries and Rs 11 per sq metre is calculated from business houses. It charges Rs 22 per sq metre for hotels, but it is collecting less amount from some of the hotels..
NMC collects property taxes from the residents, industries and shops and the tax has been classified into residential and non-residential. There is further difference in case of non-residential properties. The industrial estates under the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), especially Satpur and Ambad which comes under the NMC limits, are levied different value. I have no idea how much tax is levied on the properties..
The municipal commissioner said that the process of computerising records of all the properties and giving code numbers has already been started which will help in a systematic assessment of properties.
An opposition leader, Sudhakar Badgujar, had claimed that the deputy commissioner (taxes) has selectively waived property tax worth Rs 2 crore for a construction firm and Rs 6 lakh for a hotel. NMC asked the property tax department to conduct a probe on the issue and submit the details at the next general body meeting.
