Over 300 farmers, who have occupied at least 35 hectare of the land were protesting against acquisition of land in the five star industrial estate. They claimed that the land had originally been acquired by the irrigation department, but was handed over to a private company to develop an SEZ in December 2008.
One of the leading farmer said that it took over three years to gather entire set of documents through right to information applications. He also claimed that the documents show the manner in which the administration handed over prime agricultural land at throw away prices to private companies.
