Noida has one underground parking facility under the sector 27 park located behind Kailash Hospital. Built at a cost of almost Rs 2.5 crore, this space can take about 150 cars. Above ground, the green area sprawling across 3000 sq m is used by residents for recreation. Recommends Devesh Goel, a former town planner of the Army and resident of sector 28, "Sector-wise parking space requirement needs to be worked out taking into consideration vehicle population as well as area available, and then the requisite infrastructure should be provided in an organized manner.
The parking lots will be made wherever technically feasible. An exclusive cell has been formed to evaluate this and 22 sites with an area of 5,000 sq. m or more have already been shortlisted. Most of these sites will have space for up to 200 cars while the bigger underground parking proposed at sector 11 will be able to accommodate almost 380 cars across an area of 11440 sq m. The park above the parking site will continue to exist.
The Authority has identified more than a hundred parks across the city where conventional underground ramp parking lots will be constructed under the greens. To begin with, a few parks located in sectors 1, 3, 5, 12, 19, 58 and 88 have been chosen for construction of two-level parking lots
