Any way the Mumbai monorail project going to effect the real estate sector?
Padma G

An infrastructure project always impacts property prices in the project linked localities. The monorail project too has already driven up real estate prices. The commute time between Chembur and Wadala will be reduced by 21 minutes after the first line of the monorail project is complete
22nd October 2013

The project after getting launched would impact the property prices too in the area. As of now, property prices have really gone up and also travel time between Wadala and Chembur will reduce by 21 minutes after the Wadala-Chembur Monorail line is complete.
With price appreciation, 2 and 3 BHK apartments in Chembur are sold at Rs 12,000-16,000 per sq ft while rental value for 2-3BHK apartments varies between Rs 18,000-25,000.
Also, experts claim that areas falling on the Chembur-Wadala stretch such as Tilak Nagar, Kurla, Chunabhatti, JTD Nagar and Wadala Junction will witness a price appreciation of least 20% after the monorail dots in.

After both the Phase are completed it will be the world's second longest Mono Rail corridor in the world after Japan's Osaka mono-rail corridor which is 23.8km long. The Mumbai corridor will have 17 stations, two less than the Osaka Mono Rail corridor which has 19 stations.

As far as I know the India's first monorail, which was supposed to commence its services in September this year. Is there a delay?

yes you are right, the project had got delayed due to various reasons. However, the roadblock came in the form of uncertainty over traffic dispersal system. There is no consensus between MMRDA, the traffic police and the BMC over traffic dispersal and management. The traffic police department has called the MMRDA's traffic plans as impractical and difficult to implement. MMRDA had designed a plan creating traffic medians, parking bays and side pavements for giving way to commuters. So it will be operational within few days
