Metro construction causing traffic

Q: There is a lot of traffic because of the Metro construction in Kochi. Are the metro authorities doing anything about this?

The Metro officials are doing something to ease traffic, but maybe it is not helping. Because of Metro works, many roads have been damaged, which are being repaired. The GCDA has proposed to widen and tar STP Road, and also the Chilavanoor Bund Road. There is traffic jam almost every day near the KSRTC depot, A L Jacob railway overbridge, and Kathrikkadavu junction. The Paradise road which is being built to reduce traffic, is taking a long time to construct. Recently CPI(M) party workers protested against the slow progress of the widening and tarring of roads near Metro sites. This will hopefully help in the Corporation and Kochi Metro Rail Limited taking some action, and reduce traffic congestion in many areas of the city.

Vehicles from Tripunithura should take MG Road and Panamppilly Nagar before turning towards Thykkoodam Church Road to go to Tank Bund road.
If you are coming to the city from Vyttila, you have to take the Ponnurunni Subhash Chandra Bose Road and KK Road. Vehicles going to Thevara can take a left at the Elamkulam junction, and move on Ponneth Temple Road and Chilavannoor Road to reach MG Road.

Yes, there are a few traffic regulations that have come in place to curb traffic in Kochi. To reach Kaloor, buses going towards Aluva will now have to take the KK Road and AL Jacob ROB, and buses going towards Alappuzha should go through AL Jacob ROB, Fruity junction and KK Road. There are so many traffic jams everyday in Kochi because of the Metro. I don't know what the authorities are doing. Sometime last year the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the corporation building the metro, said that they would create new traffic regulations. But, they still haven't formulated traffic regulations for certain localities. There has been a proposal to widen MG Road and 19 other roads, which hasn't been done yet. SA Road has also been partly barricaded for widening purposes
