Q: I know that there’s been a lot of unnecessary digging on roads, sewage and streetlight problems in Mysore. Can anyone tell me the current status of these issues?
I am not sure about the digging and the sewage problems, because I am living in an area that does not face any of those issues. But the streetlights are definitely a problem here. Though it may not be as big a problem as the other issues, it has surely made life more difficult during the nights. Only a handful of places face this problem in Mysore, but I’m hoping that the local administration will get around to fixing this quickly. It’s not something that affects your daily life in a big way, but still you have to be really careful because there have been some serious accidents due to this.
Let me tell you, the sewage system, or I should say the lack of a proper sewage system is an even bigger issue in some areas. Take for example, places like Shakti Nagar, Doora and Hinkal have experienced a lot of drainage problem these past few months. Even a little bit of rain can clog up the sewage and the dirty water begins to leak out onto the roads. People have been constantly complaining to the local authorities, but they are really slow in taking the necessary actions. Some other places which were experiencing similar problems were fixed recently, so that is cause for some hope.
Hi, it has been a major concern in certain parts of Mysore, yes. For example, if you take the issue of unnecessary digging up of roads, it has been a big problem in areas like Vijayanagar, Rajarajeshwari Nagar and Gayathripuram. It is almost like the different departments like the electricity board, the water supply board and the roadways department are taking turns digging up big chunks of roads just to fix a minor issue, or sometimes for no valid reason at all. But in the other major areas, this problem is almost negligible.
