This was the basis of electoral discussions in Secunderabad. Civic issues. Many politicians fought over what was required to improve the civic facilities of the locality. Also the delay for taking up developmental projects in Cantonment Area is also because of Army intervention. Officials need prior permission from the army to do anything and this involves a lot of paperwork. It will be easier if such issues can be directly dealt with by SCB. Hopefully with the new budget allocated for 2014, there will be a lot of developmental changes in Secunderabad. i still think the locality has potential though. But issues like this are important and must be addressed.
There was a time when the infrastructure of the area matched the requirements of the residents of Secunderabad. You know when that was? In the 60's! Funny thing is, they haven't changed that time's infrastructure to the infrastructure required today in 2014. It is still the same pipes and drainage system. As a result, lot of civic issues are there like bad roads, multiple enroachments, garbage accumalation, improper drainage, and ofcourse the never ending water problem. Nobody bothered to upgrade anything and the population is now 6 times what it was. You can only imagine the groans and straining of the infrastructure. SCB needs to do something about this.
Really? Think again. As of the news update in May, areas situated outside the SCB get water supply either every alternate day or once in 3 days. However consumers in SCB only receive water once in 5 to 6 days! In all the 8 wards. That's quite strange considering the mini tanker installations. The 5.3% million gallons of water required by this locality is falling short by 50 to 60%. Residents are demanding for proper water supply in the area. Apparently the main Water Board pipeline that connects to the pump houses of the SCB has been affected and SCB officials are looking to replace it. Residents of RK Puram and Bollarum area are having a tough time because water is supplied only once in a week, that too by tankers. According to a couple of residents, they need to order 6-7 water tankers every month just so that they can get a regular supply of water. Situation is quite sad.
I actually thought that the situation was getting better. Both Hyderabad and Secunderabad face a lot of water problems especially during summer times. But something was done about this just last year. The Secunderabad Cantonment Board installed storage tanks in all the 8 wards of Secunderabad. Apart from this, when the ground water levels got really low, the builders of apartments and other big complexes were told that it was mandatory to practice rain water harvesting techniques so that water can be conserved in many ways. I think about 10 mini tanks were installed in all the divisions of Secunderabad and now there isn't so much of an issue anymore. :)
