Q: Guys, what’s the status of the BT patch work projects of the roads in Khairatabad? How far has the construction process gone? Should I invest in property around this area or not?
I frankly don’t see the point of doing this every year and wasting our tax money. The GHMC doesn’t know that when you carpet the roads with bitumen layers, you need to follow some basic road engineering rules as well. That’s why the roads keep on getting washed away and the corporation keeps spending around Rs 200 crores everywhere just on the patch work processes. The fact is that regular inspections need to happen to gauge the condition of the roads. Instead, the authorities only bother to do something after the damage is done.
Yeah, they are actually still confused between whether to use these fresh funds on new BT patching projects or on the old pending works that have yet to be completed. But they are leaning more towards finished up the pending BT works. I don’t know how the whole thing is going to happen, soon the Bonulu and Ramzan festivities are going to be happening all over Hyderabad. Even the deputy commissioner of GHMC couldn’t give any proper information about how the whole thing is going to be accomplished.
Yeah, even I heard that the project was delayed. Its less of delays and more slacking off of the engineers involved in the project. I don’t know why the GHMC is still sponsoring them on this project. Just few days back only, I think on 19th of June, the GHMC commissioner allotted more funds to these divisions. I think both division 10A and 10B got Rs 1 crore each. I think the total funds allocated to this project were much more than that. As of now the chief engineer is saying that they need to make a cost estimate and then send it to the centre for approval before proceeding any further with the project.
The status of this project is still pending. There have been a number of delays with this project, and now that the monsoon is here, there is going to be a lot more delays now. The project started earlier this year in January. But so far only 800m of patchwork has been done. There is so much more BT patchwork left to be done here, almost 2km, but I don’t know when and how that will happen. The rainy season is here already, and pretty soon, it will be pointless to try to work on the roads anymore.
