The problem was garbage dumping in the drains, merger of sewerage lines and water supply lines, service cables crossing the storm water drain, were all obstructing free flow of water. The sewage seeped onto the streets and this posed serious health concerns. The area stank and traffic stopped for atleast an hour. Now the GHMC have decided to speed up the process so hopefully we will not face such an issue again.
Hey. So 2 years ago the problem was very bad in Punjagutta. Actually what happened was, an old slab was laid over the drain in Model House in Punjagutta and this completely caved in. This caused so much traffic chaos and the drain that was supposed to carry drain water, actually carries sewage instead. And most of the commercial complexes directly let in the sewage into the storn water drains. It was a very unpleasent situation and it is high time the GHMC takes this issue seriously.
Apparently the reason for the delay in project works is because of heavy traffic on the road. I don't know what sort of excuse that is because GHMC can easily divert the traffic and finish of the work fast. But atleast the commissioner has made sure that a temporary solution to the problem would be provided till the permanent solution of completing the project is done. This will bring some relief to the residents. He has ordered the workers to dive the work in smaller segments and he's employed more workers on the job to get it done faster :)
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has a number of pending projects that they need to get done with. The nala works at Punjagutta have been going on for at least 6 years. GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, inspected the project site near Punjagutta model house recently and assured the residents that the project would be completed in 100 days. According to him the completion of the project would mean that there would be no more civic issues in the area such as inundation of roads and stagnating drainage water. This is a permanent solution for the locality's many problems.
