Q: Hey I was wondering if anyone knew anything about the new civic projects being undertaken by Cochin Development Authority? What sort of infrastructural changes and facilities would these projects provide? Any info would help. Thanks!
Under 'Mission Kochi', there are quite a few impressive advanced projects being carried out. The new municipal solid waste plant in Brahmapuram that was needed to be set up ages ago, is finally going to start isposing off 300 tonnes of waste everyday once the request for qualification and proposal are completed. They're planning on using new technoology techniques in this plant. Other projects are the 'e governance' and 'animal birth control (ABC)' programmes to be launched around September some time. There also plans of implementin new waste collection mechanisms and vehicle tracking management system for waste vehicles. These developments are sure to help Kochi really grow and increase its potential.
I think GDCA is still expecting 70% funding from the state, and I'm not sure whether they've got all the approvals yet. Even private agencies are interested in investing in these projects, so that's another source of funds. As of right now the 32 mission projects under the Mission Cochin scheme, proposed by the civic body need to be completed on time. There are already guidelines being planned to help accelerate the work. The Marine Drive office space is currently under construction. But the conversion of the Libra hotel at Paramara road into an women's hotel, solely run by women is what is the most noteworthy project according to me. This is literally the first of its kind in the entire country :)
Yeah actually the civic body's main focus is to develop the city roads and transport infrastructure. But there are a number of projects that GCDA has raised funds for. Let's see, there's the 200 crore for developing Vaduthala Varapuzha costal road, 45 crore for that sports complex at Manasserry, 6 crore skywalk at High Court Junction, 98 crore for the convention centre at Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium and15 crore underground parking centre at Ambedkar stadium. That's a lot of investments but it's good that both bodies are taking a step forward to develop Kochi!
Yes that's right! The City Corporation and Greater Cochin Development Authority have both prepared projects that they have presented to the centre for funds. Corporation prepared projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission and CDA also prepared 4 projects. These projects are aimed at improving water facilities, setting up of pedestrians, canal revitalization programmes, implementation of unified metropolitan transport authority and also the formation of its special purpose vehicle. All this seem really promising and I'm really hoping these projects are executed quickly!
