Porur has come into the limelight with the announcement of two of the three upcoming elevated monorail corridors passing through it. The attraction of Porur is further bolstered by infra developments such as its closeness to the current and proposed airport and the Outer Ring Road. Porur enjoys easy access to NH4 and GST through the Chennai Bye-pass Road. Its radial pattern makes it a well connected suburb. Porur is located 6km south-west of Chennai's city limits on the Guindy-Poonamallee Road which eventually joins the Chennai-Bengaluru National Highway, NH4. For administrative purposes, Porur is part of the Tiruvallur district. The Porur lake is the principal source of fresh water for the suburb. The growth story of the Porur as a suburb real estate market has been quite interesting. The stretch from Manapakkam to Porur is dotted with IT parks and modern commercial complexes. Whether media houses, advertising firms, banks, hotels or malls, a good mix of employment is now available in the vicinity. Availability of infrastructure and good connectivity has fuelled the interest of the business fraternity.
