Infra projects status in Coimbatore post Jayalalitha's conviction
Q: Im worried about the condition in Coimbatore because of Jayalalitha's conviction and imprisonment. What is going to happen to all the projects that she had proposed?
I heard from a TNSCB inside source that they will commence construction of the flats in two months. He also said that soil testing at the identified site in Vellalore was completed.
Some projects were announced three years ago but no progress has been made. So how can we expect the government and city corporation to take steps on implementation of projects that are mere announcements
If the government fails to implement the projects, it will go against them during the state elections in 2016. Relevant government orders should be passed immediately and work should commence
Its really unfortunate, because the sites for the Vellalore bus stand and construction of flats by Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board have been identified, but no progress has been made beyond that.
The plan was that as soon as the elections were over, the corporation was expected to start paperwork for the projects. But the disproportionate assets case against Jayalalithaa kept the AIADMK busy in other things.
Whats worrying me is that while a number of mega projects announced by Jayalalithaa in the past are at least on paper, the multi-crore projects announced by her for Coimbatore hang in balance as no government orders, administrative sanction or fund allocation has been done.
I have several friends in the industrial sector, and they have told me that all major industrialists are afraid that the projects will not take off in the absence of Jayalalithaa at the helm of the government.
Even after projects are completed, it takes several months for politicians to inaugurate them. So it is unlikely that the projects will take off in the near future because no orders have been issued
Well, Mayor P Rajkumar has reassured us that all the projects that Jayalalithaa had announced when she was chief minister would be implemented. But I dont know whether his words will actually be put into action.
I know, there were so many projects. I remember she announced a bus stand at Vellalore, multi-level car parking lots, tunnels in Kattan and Periyakombai hillocks for a water supply project, a debris processing unit and new roads.
Yes even Im worried, all these projects have come to a standstill now obviously. Can u believe it, there were 2,378 crore rupees worth of projects announced by her before all this happened.
