As far as the construction prices are concerned I read that the Centre pooled in 50 percent of the amount, and the state contributed about 40 percent. Third party beneficiaries supported the rest of the expenditure, all throughout the state

But I also heard about some protests from a section of the residents. They seem to have set up petty businesses in the locality, and thrive based on Valankulam localites. Some of them complained that they are old and cant climb stairs, and so on.

Did you know that the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance board has offered them a price of Rs 17,800? That is so wonderful. The commitee has also declared that if the residents form a proper association and take care of monthly maintenance and utility bills they then need not pay the board.

Yeah yeah! Some 60 year old apparently said it has been a long wait after so many local fights, neighbourhood issues, fake political promises and all that. Finally this will also forge a new beginning for these families. Also the Valankulam lake can now be scrutinised freely and the corporation can look into developing the area after the slum clearance.

792 families I think. Total number of residents being given new house tokens. It is a forward step in many ways. The slums have been zero sanitation zones with uninhabitable living conditions. I read that most of the people there in Valankulam were happy for their children, as it will be a safer and healthier growing environment.

Oh that is such a pleasure to know! I remember reading in the news some 4 months back that the state government is planning to make Tamil Nadu slum free by 2023. I however didn't expect such swift action. Kudos to the Slum Clearance Board. This will help the Ramanathapuram real estate corridor also in an indirect way.

Yes. It was a big news in the local dailies last week. The Valankulam lake area in Ramanathapuram is a breeding place for various diseases, and snakes and garbages. THe slums have been situated here for years. After years of government assurances, finally the action plan has taken place. I am not sure about where they are being shifted to.

True that. All the residents of the Valankulam slum are being relocated to newly set up multi storyed apartments in Ammankulam Housing Unit. The TNSCB (Tamil nadu Slum Clearance Board) has finally kept the promise and token have already been given out to the relocating masses.
