Yes, to get appropriate result, govt. should support those cities or state first. Government grants will be leveraged to attract funding from internal and external sources but unless there is a possible business model or guarantee from the centre, this would not be easy.
Also, the track record of Public Private Partnership projects is at best mixed and when there would be multiple parties associated like the center, states, local bodies and private entities, the task would be even more challenging.
Hi folks!!!! We all know that the government has recently identified 98 cities for the Smart City Project. And fund for 20 cities have been distributed. But funding for these projects and its execution will be a major challenge for companies. There is no doubt that this mission is expected to improve the quality of life for citizens of these cities. For government, the focus is on sustainable and inclusive development and the idea is to look at intensive areas and create a exemplary model.
Yes, it would be better if the Govt's focus on smaller number of cities first and then developing them as model for others going forward. Present Govt. has already started so many programme in 2015. Now it is time to complete those project in proper manner.
Under this mission, center will give financial support to the limit of Rs 48000 crore over 5 yrs, which is on an average Rs 1000 crore per city per year. And an equal amount, on a matching basis, will have to be contributed by the state and urban local bodies if required.
Right Kalki...... All those launched programmes need to be implemented successfully ......."Thoda Khaye But Achcha Khaye" .....Govt. should think over this policy first....
If we look at the list of cities which have been selected as smart city, many of them would already have annual municipal budgets running into multiple times of this figure. On the other hand, there are few states which have shown doubt for implementing the scheme and if there is not enough support from them in terms of funding and administrative help, it would be difficult to take this scheme to its reasonable result.
Hi Guys, I recently got to know from news that, as the Government of India is in the final stages of kicking off the concept of 100 'smart cities' in the country, Chandigarh will be a case study for the government to execute this dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said union minister of state for urban development and urban poverty alleviation Babul Supriyo.
In my point of view, Chandigarh is already more than 50% 'smart city', and life here is comparatively better as compared to other cities of the country. Therefore, this city will be a case study for us, while executing the 'smart cities' project in the country. We have completed almost 80 per cent of the work to execute the project.
As per sources, the process for selecting 100 cities is also 'smart' and its execution will also be 'smart'. We (officials) are also going to identify 500 cities for the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM) project. Those cities will not be bracketed with the 'smart cities' project. They will be covered under the NULM project to provide better facilities and infrastructure to the public.
Every city of the country is unique, having some kind of character. Therefore, things will be assessed from the ground. We (authority) will have to keep urban local bodies and the local administration of these cities together for the proper implementation of the project. Like in the running of a vehicle, all the wheels need to move together, so similarly, the central government, state government, and local authorities will move together with a common understanding to develop the 'smart cities'.
I heard recently that , three areas in Delhi would be taken up as models for developing the capital as a smart city. Government sources said Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has suggested a Lake City in Mayur Vihar-II, development of a land patch in Karkardooma in eastern part of the city and a greenfield project in outer Delhi.
As per my knowledge, the DDA has suggested the areas at a meeting that was attended by a delegation from Spanish government led by minister of trade Jaime Gracia-Legaz Ponce. Sources, who did not wish to be named, said Spanish government has shown keen interest to associate itself with making Delhi a smart city.
According to different sources, the two brown field projects in east Delhi would fall under the plan of developing Transit-Oriented Development zones. TOD zones break away from the conventional model of city growth by creating a pedestrian-centric, open space where public transport is encouraged and every need from parks to hospitals and schools to groceries are brought within walking distance of one's home.
As per news, the Karkardooma smart city island will come up on 2.8 lakh sqm area while Lake City in Mayur Vihar will cover 80,000 sqm. As per different sources, DDA has said the greenfield smart city would be developed in an area of 20,000 hectares in outer Delhi.
Noida and Greater Noida on the outskirts of Delhi, New Raipur in Chhattisgarh. These are recent experiments we(DA) have made . Foreign capital is available to them (since) we(authority) have opened up the sector. Smart cities would be built in a way so that they have uninterrupted power, water, proper sanitation, efficient management of solid waste, de- congestion of roads, last mile connectivity and effective use of ICT. Several countries like Japan, Germany, Sweden, Singapore, Israel, UK, US, Hong Kong and the Netherlands besides MNCs have shown interest in building smart cities in India.
Hi Mr Ravi, I heard in news that ,referring to the NDA's proposal to set up 100 smart cities in the country, finance minister Arun Jaitley said, The first Indian smart city to be created probably could be Chandigarh. There are satellite cities around Chandigarh which are being created.
Yes Kalki , you are right. Chandigarh could be the first Indian smart city as the government moves to create many hi-tech cities in the country. Elaborating on his point, finance minister said Gandhinagar is an example of a smart city and towns like Noida and New Raipur are attracting foreign investments.
