As per different sources, we came to know that, RMC commissioner Mr Nehra has termed this year's budget proposal as SMART (sensitive, modern, affordable, robust infrastructure and technology driven). In the proposal, Nehra has not proposed any additional taxes or increase in existing taxes. So there is no rumor that taxes will increase or any other taxes will hike.
In my point of view, it's a big challenge for authority as revenue expenditure is more than capital expenditure. But, authority hope that they would be able to address the people's problems. They have to be sensitive towards all classes of people. Apart from the housing project, authority have proposed animal hostel for stray cattle and setting up of hawkers' zone.
Hi Dhiraj , Yes, after many affordable housing schemes launched by many states , in order to help city dwellers , Gujurat also started it's own housing project to help Rajkot city people. It is a first such initiatives by any corporation in Gujurat. So people of Rajkot are expecting that , authority may do some changes in exisiting taxes.
In my point of view, with an aim to provide affordable houses to the city dwellers, RMC has decided to launch 'Smart Ghar' project, under which they would construct a housing colony on the land owned by the corporation. RMC commissioner has submitted Rs 1,745 crore budget proposal to RMC's standing committee for approval.
As per my knowledge, RMC would become the first ever municipal corporation in the state to launch its own housing project. People who are not covered in housing schemes of the state, will now have an opportunity to own their house at affordable rates. We will spend Rs 2 crore on this project.
