Q: Hello guys, I have noticed that is a definite delay in the cleaning up and the beautification of the Miralam lake in Hyderabad. How far has this project come?
I have heard that they are also planning a viewing gallery for the lake in here to provide a birds eye view of the entire lake to the public,. They are planning to construct thi snear the STP and the parking lots.
The municipal corporation also announced three entry plazas from Bahadurpura, No. 9 lane and Rajendranagar circle, which are yet to be started. And not only that, water quality improvement works have not been started by the corporation
only 40-50% of the compound wall and grills along the bund have been completed till date. Works are going on in the park being developed near No. 9 area with greenery, pathways, tracks and seating arrangements. Another park near Sewage Treatment Park (STP) is yet to be started as engineering works like road formation are going on now.
Yeah, this committee was supposed to be headed by the state chief secretary. The GHMC commissioner was tipped to be the vice-chairman and managing director of the authority. But you are right, this has not started yet.
The officials had said that beautification works would be completed by January, 2015. It was also decided to set up a special authority, Miralam Tank Development Authority, to oversee conservation and beautification works. But I dont think that this committe has started yet.
The total budget that was allotted to the beautification of this lake was 45 crore, and in the first phase, it was decided to take up works worth Rs 10 crore that included construction of a bund along the tank; entry plazas; walking, jogging and cycling tracks; tree plantation, theme parks, landscaping, island improvement, boating, fountains, illuminations, water quality improvement measures, etc., covering the entire stretch of Miralam Tank around seven kilometers.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) came up with plans to face-lift the lake located on the south of Musi a year ago. The lake, being developed on the lines of Tank Bund, was expected to turn into a recreation hub for Old City residents..
While several beautification proposals are yet to be taken up, works sanctioned earlier are proceeding at a snail's pace in the absence of proper planning and delay in awarding the works and their execution.
There is absolutely no monitoring on the cleaning up of the Miralam lake, It has been a while since this project has been launched. Lack of coordination among engineering, urban bio-diversity and electricity wings is further hampering the project.
