Green Belt project fails to take off even after 4 months
Q: Hello, I was looking forward to the green belt project by the NTCL. But haven't heard anything about it for quite some time now. What is happening with this?
You know an NTCL official has said that the previous Coimbatore commisioner S Ganesh was the last one to show interest in this. After he was transferred other officials have only made small talk about this and nothing concrete has been decided upon.
Yes. This was actually a very good project for the coimnbatore corporation as all the closed mills were very close to the city limits. The body had also decided upon roping in a few NGOs to maintain the green belt project.
The mills that NTCL had planned to give with their locations were as follows. Rangavilas ginning spinning and weaving mills, Coimbatore spinning & weaving mills, Cambodia mills, Pankaja mills, Somasundaram mills, Kaleeswarar mills and Sarada mills among some others.
The Corporation had decided to start with the green belt project a couple months ago back in the OCtober of 2014 . They had also worked out as to what lands to use and had pinned on the vacent lands available in different mills apart form the 25 acres that the NTCL has proposed to donate across 7 mills in the city.
An official named Jayalakshmi, the head of the green committee has said that they have plans to buy more of these augur machines but for that they have to check how well these things work. She also supposedly said that they are working on the projects.
The members of the green committeee were contacted and were asked what is wrong and what was happening. They said that one one auger machine has been bought and has not been put to use yet. This machine is used to dig holes and plant sapplings saving a lot of man hours.
That's not actually the reason, the political situation in Tamil Nadu is a lot shaky now as right now all the officials are busy celebrating one or the other festival or they are busy with the upcoming elections so they are barely getting any time to even think about this,
You know the officials close to this project have said that the senior officials that were handling these projects have either been removed or transferred which is the reason why this project has come to a stand still altogether.
All the plans were ready and they had formed a green city committee to overlook the project, Many different types of machineries and equipments too were bought for the same purpose but not even a single step has been implemented yet.
Yes. It has been over four months now since the National Textile Corpotation Limited proposed to offer over 25 acres of land for the corporation's green belt project. But ever since that stage this project has barely made any progress.
